Moeljono Widjaja

An electrical engineer who saves sea turtles

Although born in Central Java, Dr. Moeljono Widjaja hasn’t completed any of his formal tertiary studies in Indonesia.

“After I graduated from high school, I was awarded an Indonesian Government scholarship to study in the United States,” Moeljono said. “Both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in electrical engineering were international ones.”

Bob Saril

An electrical engineer for life

Bob Saril's pathway to his current role as Manager of Distribution Depatment at PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero), South Sumatra, Jambi and Bengkulu Region – a state-owned electricity company – started with his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at Universitas Sriwijaya.

Universitas Sriwijaya is a well-respected South Sumatra university in Palembang, location of a seventh century kingdom formerly known by the same name as the university.

Akhmad Nurul Kawakip

A teacher amongst a family of educators

Akhmad Nurul Kawakip, Master of Arts in Asia-Pacific Studies, completed his first degree in Indonesia at the Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Sunan Ampel - a State Institute of Islamic Studies in Surabaya.

Raised in Pasuruan, a city near Surabaya,  Akhmad always believed he would follow his parents – both teachers – into the education sector.

“In elementary and high school, I tended to prefer learning languages and social sciences.”

Adzanil Prima Septy

Earned a Doctorate and gained a son

In 2000, Dr. Adzanil Prima Septy swapped the 30°C environment of Padang in Central Sumatra for the cold Tasmanian winter.

“I did my undergraduate in education studies, specifically, TESOL – Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages – at Universitas Bung Hatta, and then completed my graduate studies in the same discipline at Universitas Negeri Malang in East Java,” Adzanil said.

Ahmad Agus Setiawan

Clean water supply for 118 families

Dr. Ahmad Agus Setiawan, Universitas Gadjah Mada Electrical Engineering graduate, was granted an Australia Awards scholarship in 2004 to complete his Doctorate at Curtin University – with a focus on renewable energy systems.

Born in Yogyakarta, the only child of hard-working, although unskilled parents, Ahmad Agus excelled in mathematics and physics at school, and succeeded in gaining entry to Universitas Gadjah Mada where he completed his undergraduate degree.
